"Tinubu Never Promised 24-Hour Electricity" — Presidency

The Presidency has denied reports suggesting that President Bola Tinubu promised to provide uninterrupted electricity to all Nigerians during his 2023 presidential campaign.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said claims that Tinubu guaranteed 24-hour power supply across the country were inaccurate and had been taken out of context. According to him, the President's campaign promise was focused on improving electricity supply and ending the practice of estimated billing, rather than assuring round-the-clock power for every Nigerian.

Onanuga explained that Tinubu had pledged to make electricity more available and ensure consumers were no longer subjected to estimated billing. He also recalled that the then-presidential candidate told Nigerians they should not vote for him for a second term if he failed to fulfill his promises and could not provide a convincing explanation for the delay.

The clarification comes amid ongoing discussions about the state of electricity supply in the country and whether the current administration has lived up to expectations in the power sector.
